Arlo Parks full name Anais Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho is a renowned English singer, songwriter and poet. She rose to global fame in 2021 following the release of her debut studio album Collapsed in Sunbeams.

The album peaked at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart and won the 2021 Hyundai Mercury Prize Best Album of the Year. Moreover, it received nominations for Album of the Year, Best British Female Solo Artist and Best New Artist at the 2021 Brit Awards.

Parks as well won the 2021 Brit Awards Breakthrough Artist Award.

Her music is a combination of R&B, Indie pop and Indie folk with her major influence being Joni Mitchell, Sylvia Plath, Radiohead and Elliot Smith.

Besides music Marinho doubles up as a poet with her debut poetry book The Magic Border released on 12 September 2023.

Debut and Second EPs: 2018-2019

The English songbird started her music career in 2018. Her demos uploaded to BBC Music Introducing were noted by radio presenters who shared them with Ali Raymond of Beatnik Creative. In no time she was signed by Beatnik and released her solo debut song Cola in November 2018. Inside the first one year, the song had over 3 million streams on Spotify.

Parks then signed to Transgressive Records and in January 2019 dropped her debut EP title track, Super Sad Generation. Furthermore, in March 2019, she released Romantic Garbage her third single. The following month, she released her four-track debut EP, Super Sad Generation. Arlo made a number of performances between May and July before engaging in her maiden tour supporting Jordan Rakie in September 2019. In 2019 as well, she released four singles namely George, Second Guessing, Sophie and Angel’s Song followed by her five-track Second EP titled Sophie.

Debut Studio Album: 2020-2022

In February and March 2020, Arlo embarked on her maiden headlining tour in Europe which unfortunately cut short due to COVID-19. She then dropped two singles, Black Dog and Eugene in May. In August 2020 Parks won the AIM Independent Music Award for One to Watch.

On 29 January 2021, she released her debut studio album Collapsed in Sunbeams. The album peaked at number 3 on the UK Album Chart and won the Hyundai Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. Furthermore, it received nominations for 2021 Brit Awards’ Album of the Year, Best British Female Solo Artist and Best New Artist. She also the 2021 Brit Awards Breakthrough Artist Award. In 2022, Parks performed as the opening act for Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and Clairo.

Second album: 2023-present

In January 2023, Arlo dropped her second studio album’s lead song Weightless followed by singles Impurities, Blades and Pegasus. She released the album titled My Soft Machine on 26 May 2023.

She then toured Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and Australia. On 5 September 2023, Parks kicked-off her European tour in Dublin.
