Solana Imani Rowe professionally known as SZA is a renowned multiple Grammy Awards winning American singer and songwriter. She first created buzz through her two self-released Extended Plays See.SZA.Run in 2012 and S in 2013. She was the first female artist to sign with Top Dawg Entertainment in 2013 before relocating to RCA Records in 2017. However, SZA ascended to fame through the release of her debut studio album Ctrl in 2017.

Career kick-off and three EPs: 2011-2015
The talented artist met and build connections with members of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2011. She began to trigger excitement following her two self-released Extended Plays See.SZA.Run in October 2012 followed closely by S in April 2013. She consequently signed with TDE in July 2013 becoming the record label’s first female artist. SZA dropped Teen Spirit, her first single under TDE in December 2013 followed by features on songs by her label-mates.
She released her third, and first studio EP titled Z in April 2014 with the EP making SZA’s UK chart debut on the R&B Charts at number 32. Furthermore, Z debuted at number 39 in the US Billboard 200 and peaked on the Billboard Hip hop/R&B chart at number nine.
Debut album, RCA contract, breakthrough and collaborations: 2016-2020
Rowe wrote songs for other artists including Rihanna and Beyonce. Notably, she co-wrote and featured on the track Consider for Rihanna’s sixth album Anti (2016). SZA dropped Drew Barrymore, the lead single for her upcoming debut album Ctrl in January 2017. She signed for RCA Records on 28 April 2017.
Ctrl, SZA’s debut studio album was released in June 2017 attaining global praise and rating 86 percent according to Metacritic. Moreover, the album debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart. Additionally, Ctrl received platinum certification and Time ranked it as the best album of 2017. Love Galore one of the albums best singles peaked in top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. SZA then embarked on a North American and Oceanic concert tour between August 2017 and February 2018 to promote her album. Following the album’s enormous success, SZA received five Grammy nominations, the most nominations of a female artist of the 2018 Awards.
She collaborated with various artists notably Maroon 5 on What Lovers Do in August 2017 and Kendrick Lama on All the Stars in January 2018. The tracks peaked at number 9 and 7 respectively at the Billboard Hot 100 becoming SZA’s best on the chart. In May 2019, SZA as well featured on DJ Khaled’s track Just Us. She also featured in Justin Timberlake’s The Other Side in February 2020.
In September 2020, SZA dropped the track Hit Different featuring Ty Dolla Sign, the first track as a lead artist since 2017. It was followed by release of another single, Good Days on December 25. The track peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 becoming SZA’s maiden top-10 single as a solo artist.
Second and third albums: 2021-present
SZA released her second album SOS on December 2022. The album spending its first seven weeks top of the chart a record first time since1987. She then went on the SOS Tour, across North America and Europe. from February 2023 to May 2024.
Her third album titled Lana is expected to be released in 2024.
