Marjolen Nekesa Wafula is a sensational Kenyan professional footballer. She plays as either an attacking midfielder or striker for Czech Women’s First League club Slavia Prague and the Kenya women’s national team, the Harambee Starlets.

Nekesa joined the Czech giants as a free agent after having an appealing season with Belarusian club FC Minsk. She was the top scorer for the Czech Women’s First League for the 2022-23 season with 14 goals.

The Kenyan star player is also instrumental in mentoring young players especially girls. She is the patron of Lusweti Queens Academy located in Kakamega County, Kenya.

Born the Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Kenya on 27 October 1998, Marjolen is 25 years old as of 2024.

Nekesa is approximately 1.68 meters (5 feet 6 inches) tall.

Marjolen Nekesa Early life and Education

The star Kenyan footballer was introduced to football by her father when she was still young. Nekesa attended Butere Girls High School which is one of Kenya’s best in nurturing girls’ football talents.

She would soon after join Oklahoma Wesleyan University where she took a Bachelors of science degree in Sports management. Nekesa played college soccer in the United States and scored 25 goals as a freshman.

Club Career

Minsk: 2022

Marjolen joined Belarusian side Minsk in 2022 scoring in her maiden appearance for the club in the Belarusian Women’s Super Cup final. She went on to become one of the most important players for the club.

SK Slavia Praque: 2022-present

Later in 2022, Nekesa signed for Czech Women’s First League twenty time champions SK Slavia Praque. She finished as the league top-scorer with 14 goals to win the Golden boot in her maiden season in Czech Republic. Marjolen as well won the 2022-23 League title with the Slavia.

Nekesa is the third Kenyan female player (after Cynthia Shilwatso and Esse Akida) to feature in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She is the first Kenyan female footballer to play in Czech Republic.

International career

The talented attacker played for Kenya at youth level more specially in the under-20. She was first called-up to the Kenya women’s national senior team in 2018 for the Women’s African Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana. Nekesa has since then been a common figure in the Kenyan side.
