Mutula Kilonzo Jnr is a renowned Kenyan politician and lawyer who is currently the Makueni County governor. He is also an advocate of the Supreme Court and High Court of Kenya. Mutula is a managing partner in Kilonzo and Company Advocates.
Junior is a member and the vice-chairperson of the Wiper Democratic Movement, Kenya (WDM-K).
Mutula is the second governor for Makueni County. He succeed Prof. Kivutha Kibwana who served as the first governor from 27 March 2013 to 25 August 2022.
Previously, Kilonzo Junior served the people Makueni as a senator after he was elected as the county’s second senator in a by-election in July 2013. This was after the sudden demise of his father Mutula Kilonzo who was at the time the senator for Makueni. Junior was re-elected as the Makueni senator in August 2017.

The celebrated lawyer enrolled in Jamhuri Primary School in 1981 and sat for his KCPE in year 1989. He then joined Nairobi Milimani Secondary School in 1990 for his secondary education and sat for KCSE in 1993. Being a bright student, Mutula did exceptionally well in school.
He later joined Dr. Ambedkar College, Nagpur India in 1994 where he took a Bachelor of Law (LLB). He graduated in 1999.

The seasoned Lawyer first ventured into politics accidentally in July 2013 after the sudden death of his father Mutula Kilonzo who was at the time first Makueni County Senator. Kilonzo Jnr ran for the Makueni Senatorial seat by the Wiper Democratic Movement, Kenya ticket in a by-election which he claimed landside victory against veteran politicians such as Philip Kaloki and John Harun Mwau. He was re-elected for a second term in August 2017.
In the August 2022 general elections, Mutula won the Gubernatorial race to become the second Makueni governor taking over from Prof. Kivutha Kibwana who is the pioneer governor.
