Olivia Isabel Rodrigo is a famed Grammy award-winning American singer, songwriter and actress. She is a Filipino descent through her father and proudly identifies herself as Filipino-American. Although generally described as a pop artist, her music cuts across several genres ranging from pop, pop rock, indie pop and alternative rock. Besides vocals, Olivia is as well excellent in playing the piano, guitar ukulele.

Olivia grew up listen to alternative rock music by her parent’s favorite bands namely, Green Day, No Doubt, Pearl Jam and the White Stripes. Her music idols and inspirations are Lorde and Taylor Swift.

She first gained fame as a child actor for her leading role on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark (2016-2019) and Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (2019-2022). Her debut single Drivers License dropped in 2021 under Geffen Records topped the international charts to gain her immerse prominence in the music industry. Still in 2021, she released her debut studio album Sour which won her numerous awards including three Grammys. Olivia Rodrigo : Driving Home 2 U, a Disney+ documentary was dropped in 2022. This was followed by her second studio album, Guts in September 2023.

Olivia has attained massive success in her career winning manifold awards including five RIAA multi-platinum certifications. 2003-2019: Early days

Young Olivia grew up in Temecula and went to Lisa J. Mails Elementary School located in Murrieta. Olivia’s parents enrolled her for vocal training aged five and would participate in local singing competitions. She first appeared on screen in a commercial in 2010 while aged seven years. At age nine Rodrigo began taking acting and piano classes and at twelve, she was into songwriting and playing guitar.

She debuted in acting in 2015 aged just twelve starring as Grace Thomas in An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success. In 2016, Olivia had to relocate to Los Angeles as well as change from public schooling after just one year in middle school to home schooling. This was after acquiring an acting role casting as Paige Olvera in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark which ran for three seasons. In 2019, she was handed a lead role of Nini Salazar-Roberts in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, a Disney+ series which premiered in November same year. She as well wrote and performed All I Want, promotional single for the series dropped in November 2019.

2020-2022: Debut single and album, top of Billboard charts

In 2020, Olivia signed for Geffen Records on a record deal giving her masters of her music ownership. She dropped her debut single Drivers License in January 2021. The song became a instant hit and broke the Spotify record for most daily streams twice. It debuted number one on Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts in several countries. Her follow-up single Deja Vu dropped in 1 April 2021 debuted at number eight on the Billboard 100. This made Rodrigo the first artist to have their first two releases in the Hot 100 top 10.

On 14 May, she dropped her third single Good 4 U which ended up being her second single to debut at number one on the Hot 100. Seven days later she released her debut studio album Sour which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It maintained the spot for five weeks to become the longest reigning number one album done by a female artist in 2021. In June 2021, Times ranked Olivia the Entertainer of the Year. Respectively Drivers License and Sour were Spotify’s most streamed song and album worldwide. Sour was also 2021’s third and fourth best selling album in the US and UK respectively. Olivia ended 2021 as the artist with the best selling singles globally according to Billboard.

2022: Headlining tour and three Grammy Awards

Rodrigo kicked off her debut headlining tour, the Sour Tour across United States, Canada and Europe in April until July 2022 in support of her album. At the 2022 64th Annual Grammy Awards, she received seven nominations including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for Drivers License and the Album of the Year for Sour. She bagged three of the awards; Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance for Drivers License and Best Pop Vocal Album for Sour.

2023-present: Second album and BRIT Billion Award

On August 2023, Rodrigo made history as the 19th and youngest artist to receive the BRIT Billion Award after attaining one billion digital streams in the UK. The following month she dropped her second album, Gut which debuted in the Billboard 200 chart. Following its praise from diverse outlets, the album was announced by BBC as the most critically acclaimed album in 2023. Vampire the album’s lead single became Rodrigo’s third single to debut top of the Billboard Hot 100. Consequently, she made history as the first artist ever to have debut lead singles of their first two career-albums topping the Hot 100. In October, she released a limited vinyl-exclusive EP titled Guts: The Secret Tracks which comprised of four tracks.

In support for her album Guts, Olivia will embark on her second headlining tour, Guts World Tour. Expected to run from February to August 2024 the tour will include North America and Europe.
