Catherine Kamau is a celebrated Kenyan award-winning actress and one of the top celebrities in Kenya. Famously known as “Kate Actress” and “Celina”, she is one of best talents in the Kenyan entertainment industry. Kate is as well a prominent content creator and a You Tuber.

Kate made her breakthrough following her character as Celina (Charlie’s wife) in the well-known Citizen TV show ‘Mother-in-law’. At first, she took the role of a dancer and receptionist before featuring as Celina. She has also acted in other films including Sue na Jonie, Disconnect and Plan B.

After completing her high school education, Celina enrolled for a Diploma in Communication, majoring in public relations at Kenya College of Communication and Technology (now MultiMedia University of Kenya). She later joined KCA University for an accountancy course but dropped out on realizing that it was not in her strong interest.

In 2006, she was admitted at Makerere University, Uganda but again had to call off her studies due to pregnancy at a tender age of 19.

However on 19 September 2023, the two announced in a joint statement that they were ending their five year marriage.

Kate started her acting career as a dancer and receptionist for the famous Citizen TV show ‘Mother-in-law’ which began in 2006. She would later take the main role of Celina (Charlie’s wife and Olive’s mother). It is her extremely appealing performance in this drama series that Kate proved to be one of the best actresses in the industry.

Despite being viewers favorite in Mother-in-law, Kamau left the show. She took the role of Sue in a Swahili TV series ‘Sue na Jonnie’. Consequently, in the 2017 Kalasha Awards, she won the Best Lead Actress in the TV Drama Series category. The following year, owing to her exceptional performance in the film ‘Disconnect’, she was a nominee in the Best Support Actress in the Film category 2018 Kenya Film Commission Kalasha Awards.

Kate played the role as Joyce in ‘Plan B’, a 2019 romantic comedy film. Her Splendid performance saw her win the Best Support Actress in the Film category 2019 Kalasha Awards.

The talented actress has as well been part of the main cast in other movies. This includes The Grand Little Lie (GLL) which premiered in October 2021.
