Early days
Gusto developed passion for sports and particularly football from a young age. Though his dad played rugby football, the young Gusto choose soccer. He began formation for his football career in AS Villefontaine in 2012 at the age of nine until 2015. He then moved to Bourgoin-Jallieu for a one year period before joining the Olympique Lyon academy in 2016.
Olympique Lyon
Malo joined Olympique Lyon at the sometime the Club was moving in to Stade des Lumieres in his home town Decines-Charpieu. His development at the club academy was impressive and made a number appearances in the team’s Youth League and National 2 with the reserve team. In December 2020, he signed his first professional contract with the club, having already gotten a few selections for the senior team in Ligue 1.
He made his debut first team appearance for the club in 24 January 2021, in a 5-0 Ligue 1 away victory against Saint-Etienne, coming in as a substitute in the 90th minute. In June 2021, Malo signed a new contract with Lyon extending his stay with the French side until 2024. He made his first start for Lyon on 7 August against Brest. This made him the youngest defender to start a Ligue 1 game for the club since Samuel Umtiti.
Chelsea
On 29 January 2023, Chelsea signed the French prospect from Olympique Lyon on a seven-year contract and loaned back to the French side until the end of the 2022-23 season. Gusto made his Chelsea debut in a 1-1 EPL draw against Liverpool on 13 August. He received a red card for the first time in his career in a home defeat against Aston Villa on 24 September.
