Kobbie Boateng Mainoo is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. He plays for English Premier League club Manchester United and England U19 national team. He has quickly climbed through the ranks and establish himself as one of the most promising talents in the world. The gifted youngster is a versatile midfielder who majorly plays in central midfield but can as well play as either a defensive or attacking midfielder.

The Manchester United academy graduate has represented England in the youth levels at U17, U18 and U19. He was part of the club’s youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2021-22 season. Due to his excellent performances at youth level, he was awarded the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year, 2022-23.

With Ghanaian roots through his father, Mainoo is eligible to play for either Ghana or England at senior national team level. However, the football sensation seems to prefer the Three Lions.

Born in Stockport in the Great Manchester, England in 19 April 2005, Mainoo is 18 years old in 2024.

The rising football star is a fruit of love between Felix Mainoo and Abena Harold. He has a Ghanaian descent through the father. His parents divorced and his mother remarried in September 2018. However, Felix and Abena have maintained a close friendship and are always supportive to their children.

Kobbie shares a strong bond with his brother Jordan Mainoo- Hames and sisters Ama Mainoo and Efia Mainoo. Jordan gained fame when he starred on a Tv show, Love Island in 2019.

The family has been a main source of inspiration for Kobbie.

Kobbie Mainoo Club Career

Mainoo began his career in football at Cheadle & Gatley Junior Football Club before switching to Manchester United Academy at the age of nine.

Manchester United

After rising through the ranks at Manchester United, Kobbie signed his first professional contract in May 2022. He got his first senior callup to train with the club’s senior Squad in October 2022. Mainoo was first named on the team sheet on 16 October in a EPL match against Newcastle United but sat out on the bench.

On 10 January 2023, he made his senior debut during a 3-0 EFL Cup victory against Charlton Athletic. He made his EPL debut from the bench nine days later in a 3-0 win over Leicester City. His first senior goal for United come on 28 January 2024 in a 4-2 FA Cup fourth round win against Newport. Mainoo scored his debut Premier League goal in the 97th minute of a 4-3 away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on 1 February 2024.

He soon became an immanent part of the first team. During the 2023-24 FA Cup finals at Wembley on 25 May, Mainoo scored United second goal to secure a 2-1 against EPL winners Manchester City. United FA Cup triumph also ensured their qualification for the 2024-25 Europa League.

Kobbie Mainoo International Career

Mainoo has played for the Three Lions at U17, U18 and U19 levels. He received his first callup to the England national team squad in March 2024. Kobbie made his senior international debut coming on in the 75th minute as a substitute for Conor Gallagher in a 1-0 home defeat against Brazil at Wembley Stadium on 23 March 2024. Three days later, made his first start for England against Belgium yet again at Wembley. Following his outstanding performance in that match, Mainoo was awarded the man of the match.

It is only the beginning for this promising talent and by the look of things, we are yet to see the best of him. All we can do is to wish this rising star the greatest achievements in his football career.
