The renowned journalist was born in Voi but her family later relocated to Nyeri while she was still little. The young Mashirima attended Consolata Primary School, Nyeri where she did extremely well in her KCPE. She was admitted at Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School, Karatina for her secondary education and excelled in her KCSE exams.

Mashirima’s career journey in media started while still at the university. She worked as a reporter and a news representer at the university owned Shine FM. She also served as the Radio Station manager (from 2010 to 2011) where she learned invaluable managerial and leadership skills.
Upon graduation form the university, she joined KBC Television as a news presenter and reporter. This was her first opportunity enact with her audience on television and the viewers loved her instantly. Mashirima got a huge following and gained massive popularity in no time.
She later worked at Nation Media Group’s QFM and NTV before moving to Standard Group owned television KTN in 2013. It is during her time at KTN when she enjoyed a tremendous growth in her career.
