Youssoufa Moukoko is a renowned Cameroon-born German professional footballer who plays as a striker. He plays for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team.

Moukoko has been an incredible goalscorer since his youth producing amazing figures with his excellent scoring prowess. He is one of the world’s greatest prospects in football and is extraordinarily gifted at his age.

The German typically operates as the main striker but can as well play the role of a support striker. He is noted to make runs into the center of the attack and his skillful off ball moves in the final third gets him into excellent scoring positions. Youth Level

Born in Yaounde, Moukoko spent the first decade of his life in the Cameroon capital where he lived with his grandparents. He later relocated to Hamburg, Germany to live with his parents. He began his football career at Hamburg based FC St. Pauli where he played in their academy teams from 2014 until 2016. During this time, he proved himself as one of the most promising youngsters, scoring 23 in only 13 games for the U15s.

In July 2016, Moukoko moved to Borussia Dortmund youth academy where he prospered. Playing for the U17 Bundesliga as the only 12 year old, he scored twice went ahead to score six hat tricks for the side at age 14 in the 2018-19 season. He moved up to the U19s team in the 2019-20 season aged 15 where he scored 6 goals in his U19 Bundesliga debut against Wuppertaler SV.

He debuted in the UEFA Youth League against Barcelona on 17 September 2019. At just 14, Moukoko made history as the youngest player ever feature in the competition. On 23 October 2019, the gifted striker became the youngest UEFA Youth League scorer when he netted against Inter Milan.

He scored a total of 141 goals in only 88 games for the BVB youth team.

Senior level

Youssoufa was eligible to play for the senior team after his sixteenth birthday. He stated training with the Dortmund in January 2020. He made his senior debut on 21 November 2020, only a day after turning sixteen in a 5-2 win against Hertha BSC coming on to replace Erling Haaland in the 85th minute. This made him the youngest Bundesliga player in history breaking Nuri Sahin’s previous record of 16 years and 334 days.

His UEFA Champions League debut was on 8 December as a substitute against Zenit Saint Petersburg. Moukoko as well made history as the competition’s youngest player with 16 years and 18 days exceeding the 16 years and 87 days Celestine Babayaro’s previous record. A week later, he made his maiden start for BVB against Werder Bremen. His debut senior goal was on 18 December against Union Berlin making him the youngest Bundesliga goalscorer at only 16 years and 28 days. In his Bungesliga debut season, Youssoufa unfortunately suffered an injury in March that ruled him out for the rest of the season. He made 14 appearances and scored three goals in the 2020-21 season.

The 2021-22 season was not an exciting one for the youthful striker under a new head coach. He only managed to 16 Bundesliga appearances while netting just two goals. He however concluded the season by winning the DFB-Pokal, his first trophy as a professional player.

Following the departure of Haaland and Steffen Tigges in the 2022 summer, Moukoko enjoyed more play time in the 2022-23 season scoring seven goals and assisting three. He made history as the first teenager to reach a tally of ten goals in Bundesliga.

Youssoufa Moukoko International Career

Moukoko first represented Germany U16 national team in 3-1 win against Austria on 11 September 2017 and was the youngest player in the side at just 13. Two days later against the same opponent, the youngster scored twice to secure Germany’s 2-1 victory. He was called up to the Germany U21 team on March 2021 but suffered an injury and was ruled out until end of the season. On 2 September Moukoko made his U21 debut in a 6-0 victory over San Marino and scored twice. He consequently became the youngest ever player and scorer to for the Germany U21 team.

He received his first call up for the Germany national team for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup on 10 November 2022. His senior team debut came on 16 November in a pre-world cup friendly against Oman. Moukoko made history as the youngest Germany senior team debutant. He made his World Cup debut on 23 November against Japan, coming on from the bench in the 90th minute. At only 18 years and 3 days he made history once more as the youngest German to ever play in the Word Cup.
