Jude Victor William Bellingham is celebrated English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. He plays for Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid and the England national team.

Regarded as one of the best talents in the world today, Jude is famous for his outstanding ball control, pace, and dribbling expertise. He also excellent in both defense and attacking roles. Given his versatility, Bellingham is reputed as among the most accomplished midfielders. He has the competence to play several positions in the midfield and has the physicality and technique to win the ball, encounter opposition defense as well as create gaps and scoring opportunities.

Bellingham’s skills at his young age have so far won him several awards including the prestigious Golden Boy award and Kopa Trophy both won in 2023.

Jude Bellingham Club Career

Birmingham: 2010-2020

The English football sensation began his career at Stourbridge before joining Birmingham City under-8 in 2010. Bellingham was exceptionally talented from an early age. At only age 14, he played for the U18 team and at 15 debuted for the U23. In his debut for the Birmingham U23 on 15 October 2018 against Nottingham Forest U23, Jude scored the only goal in the 87th minute after coming on as a substitute later.

He was then slowly inducted into the senior team while he was still a schoolboy. He would soon after make history as the clubs youngest first-team player with 16 years and 38 days when he played against Portsmouth in the first round of the EFL Cup on 6 August 2019. Jude played his maiden EFL game on 25 August coming on from the bench in a 3-0 away loss to Swansea City. Six days later, he made his home debut coming on to score the winning goal as Birmingham fought from 1-0 down to a 2-1 victory against Stoke City. He consequently became the club’s youngest goalscorer at 16 years and 63 days. He would in no time become an inherent part of the team.

Jude was named the EFL Young Player of the Year and Championship Apprentice of the Year due to his outstanding performance in throughout the season. Additionally, in recognition to Bellingham extraordinary achievements at the club, Birmingham announced they would be retiring the number 22 shirt.

Borussia Dortmund: 2020-2023

On 20 July 2020, Bellingham joined Borussia from Birmingham on a fee understood to be 25 million pounds making history as the most expensive 17-year old. He debuted for the club on 14 September 2020 in their first 2020-21 season match, a DFB-Pokal 5-0 win against MSV Duisburg. He scored Dortmund’s second goal to become their youngest goalscorer in any competitive match at only 17 years and 77 days. His Bundesliga debut came five days later in a 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bellingham made history as the youngest Englishman to start a UEFA Champions League match. This was against Lazio in the competitions group stage on 20 October 2020. He was only 17 years and 113 days. Jude scored his maiden Champions League goal against Manchester City while his debut Bundesliga goal was against VfB Stuttgart. He consummated his first season having played in 46 games and scored 4 goals in all competitions. He was voted the Newcomer of the Season and was the runner-up in the 2021 Kopa Trophy.

Bellingham carried on with his excellent performances for both club and country in the 2022-23 season. He was voted the 2022 Kopa Trophy winner and became the first English player to win the award. He rated at position 18 in the Ballon d’Or voting.

Real Madrid: 2023-present

On 14 June 2023, Bellingham signed for Real Madrid on a six-year deal for a fee of over 103 Euros . He became the sixth English professional player to sign for the Spanish giants. He debuted and scored his first goal for Real in a 2-0 La Liga away victory against Athletic Bilbao on 12 August 2023. Three more goals and an assist in his first month made him the La Liga top scorer and the first Englishman to receive the La Liga Player of the Month award. Jude scored 10 goals in his first 10 games for Real to match Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record in 2009.

Bellingham made history as the first Real Madrid player to score in their debut La Liga, Champions League and El Clasico with his first goal being Real’s 300th El Clasico goal. This was after scoring a brace against Barcelona to secure a 2-1 win for Real on 28 October 2023. He also became the first English player after Michael Owen in 2005 to score in El Clasico.

Only a few weeks after receiving the Kopa Trophy, Bellingham was announced the 2023 Golden Boy award winner. He has also won the 2023-24 Supercopa de Espana with Real.

Jude Bellingham International Career

Youth level

The gifted youngster first represented England at the U15 against Turkey in December 2016. Having captained the national team in 2017-18, he was awarded a Special Achievement Award by Birmingham City in 2018. He debuted for the England U16 team in 2018. He ended up playing eleven games and scoring 4 goals and eventually becoming the captain.

Jude captained the England U17 to win the Syrenka Cup in September 2019 was voted the player of the tournament. He was first called-up to the U21s in September 2020 for the European Championship qualifiers against Kosovo and Austria. Bellingham became the youngest player to feature for the England U21 when he played against Kosovo on 4 September 2020. He scored in the 85th minute to seal a 6-0 win.

Senior level

Bellingham was for the first time called up to the England senior team in November 2020. His senior debut was on 12 November at Wembley in a 3-0 win against Republic of Ireland. Coming on in the 73rd minute, Jude became third-youngest English international at 17 years and 136 days behind Theo Walcott and Wayne Rooney. He was part of the England squad for the delayed EUFA Euro 2020, played in June 2021. Bellingham became the youngest England player to play a major tournament when he featured in 1-0 win against Croatia at Wembley on 13 June. He was only 17 years and 349 days.

Jude scored his debut senior international goal on 21 November during the 2022 World Cup first match, a 6-2 win against Iran. He consequently became England’s second youngest World Cup scorer.
