Early days
Alejandro kicked-off his career in the Getafe academy before enrolling into the Atletico Madrid youth development system in 2015.
Manchester United
2020-2022: Youth level
The young talent relocated to the Manchester United academy in October 2020. Owing to his impressive development, he signed his first professional contract with the English giants in July 2021. His growth in the club was greatly appealing with his solo goal in the FA Youth Cup against Everton being nominated the club’s February 2022 Goal of the Month award. His first Premier League debut was in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea 28 April 2022 coming on in the 91st minute.
Garnacho found the net twice in the FA Youth Cup finals against Nottingham Forest on 11 May as United won the Cup for the first time in ten years. He consummated the 2021-22 season by winning the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.
2022-present: Senior level
Alejandro’s senior debut start was in a UEFA Europa League 3-0 victory over Sheriff Tiraspol were he exhibited a lot of maturity and determination. He scored his maiden goal on 3 November in yet another Europa match with the assist from his role model Cristiano Ronaldo. His debut EPL goal followed ten days later against Fulham. Garnacho signed a new five-year contract on 28 April 2023 committing his stay at Manchester until 30 June 2028.
His stunning bicycle-kick goal from 15 yards against Everton on 26 November won the November 2023 Premier League goal of the Month. He scored his first Champions League goal on 29 November in a 3-3 draw against Galatasaray. On 26 December scored his debut senior brace in a 3-2 comeback victory over Aston Villa consequently taking home the Man of the Match award. The youngster scored another brace in yet another turnaround against Chelsea to give United a 2-3 lead from 2-0 down. United however eventually lost the game 4-3 in a dramatic stoppage time.
Garnacho carried on with scoring important goals for the Red Devils. In the FA Cup finals on 25 May 2024, he scored the opening goal as they overcame City rivals Manchester City 2-1 to clinch the 2023-24 FA Cup. Manchester United consequently secured a slot for the 2024-25 Europa Cup.
Alejandro Garnacho International Career
Having eligibility to play for both Spain and Argentina, Garnacho represented Spain U18 three times in 2021. He was later in March 2022 called up to the senior Argentina team for two World Cup qualifiers but did not make an appearance. Later in the same month he debuted for the Argentina U20 team, starting in a friendly match against the USA. At the 2022 Maurice Revello Tournament, Garnacho scored four times in four matches for the U20 side to win the Player and Goal of the Tournament awards.
He received another call up to the Argentina senior team in March 2023 but was forced to withdraw due to an ankle injury. Garnacho finally made his senior international debut on 15 June 2023 in a friendly match against Australia when he came on in the second half.
