Cole Jermaine Palmer is an English professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or a winger. He plays for English Premier League club Chelsea FC and the England national team. The gifted youngster is one of the best young football talents in the world today.

Palmer is famous for dribbling prowess, passing play, pressing high and precise crossing. He loves to utilize his skillful dribbling and speed to dodge defenders and coast in especially on the right wing then cross or shoot with his perfect left foot. Manchester City

Palmer kicked off his football career at the Manchester City academy at Under-8 level before moving up the youth levels. He captained the Manchester City U18 team during the 2019-20 season helping the side lift the FA Youth Cup as he scored in the final against Chelsea.

He made his senior debut on 30 September 2020 in a 3-0 away EFL Cup fourth round victory against Burney. Cole scored his maiden goal a year later, on 21 September 2021 in a 6-1 EFL Cup home win over Wycombe Wanderers. On 19 October 2021 he scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in a 5-1 win against Club Brugge.

In the 2022-23 season, he established himself as a regular in the Citizens’ first team. Palmer ended the season with a total of 25 appearances across all competitions and a triple winner of the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League.

His last Manchester City goal was in the 2023 UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla.

Chelsea

Palmer signed for Chelsea on a seven-year contract on 1 September 2023 with the transfer fee of about 40 million Pounds. He made his Chelsea debut a day later coming in as a substitute in a 1-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest. His first goal for the London club came from the spot and as well providing an assist in a 4-1 away win against Tottenham Hotspur. On 8 September, he scored another spot-kick this time against his former club Manchester City in 4-4 Premier League thriller at the Stamford Bridge. His Chelsea’s first goal from open play was on 5 December 2023 in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Palmer’s first brace as a professional came on 30 December in a 3-2 win over Luton Town. In between his two goals, he provided an assist for Noni Madueke. He consequently attained double figures in total Premier League goal contributions to become the fifth Chelsea player aged 21 and below to achieve this milestone.

With his outstanding performances Palmer has since established himself as an invaluable component in the Chelsea squad. With his assist on Axel Disasi’s goal against Brentford on 2 March 2024, he overtook Arjen Robben (16 contributions in 2004-05) to become the Chelsea player aged 21 and below with most goal contributions in a season.

Breaking records at Chelsea

Palmer is already breaking records in his debut season at Stamford Bridge. On 15 April 2024, he netted four times in 6-0 win against Everton to become the first Chelsea player to score four goals in a EPL match since Frank Lampard in March 2010. He is also the third player aged 21 or younger to register more than 30 goals in a single season. Only Liverpool’s Robbie Fowler in 1994-95 and 1995-96 and Norwich City’s Chris Sutton in 1993-94 have achieved that.

He completed his first season at Stamford Bridge with 41 goal involvements; 27 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions. His outstanding debut season at Chelsea was rewarded with six individual accolades. They include; Men’s Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards 2024, Premier League Young Player of the Season 2023-24, PFA Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year 2023-24 and the Premier League Game Changer 2023-24. On 7 May 2024, he was named Chelsea 2023-24 Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Season.

Cole Palmer International Career

The talented youngster represented England in the 2019 UEFA European U17 Championship. He got a call up for the England U21 team for the first time in 27 August 2021 and scored his first goal in a 2-0 win over Kosovo in the 2023 UEFA European U21 Championship as England went on to win the tournament.

On 13 November 2023, Cole received a call up to the senior Lions team and debuted on 17 November when he came on from the bench in England’s 2-0 home win against Malta.
