Jeremy Baffour Doku is a Belgian professional footballer who plays as a winger. He plays for English Premier League giants Manchester City and the Belgium national team. Renowned for his rapidity, dribbling adroitness and stamina, Doku is undoubtedly among the best dribblers in football.

He is considered as one of the world’s best wingers. Doku is excellent on one-on-one situations as well as fast in advancing with the ball during counter-attacks. He is equally capable of playing on either wings and is famed of constantly switching wings to create chances for himself or his teammates.

Doku is so far the youngest player to be directly involved in five goals in a single EPL match. He is also a joint record holder with most assists (four) in one match.

After representing Belgium at youth level since the U15s, Doku won his first senior cap in 2020 and wore the national colours at the UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Jeremy is the second born in a four children family of David and Belinda Doku. He has two younger sisters and an older brother named Jefferson who is an Anderlecht youth academy graduate. The family has a Ghanaian descent.

Jeremy Doku Club Career

Doku loved football from a tender age. Despite his parents efforts on having him focus on education, he would train between classes. The young talent began his football journey in a local side KVC Olympic Deume. He later joined Tubantia Borderhout from 2007-2009 before moving to Beerschot in 2009-2012.

Anderlecht: 2012-2020

In 2012 while aged 10 years, he switched to Anderlecht where he joined the club’s youth development program. Doku’s talent blossomed at Anderlecht and on 25 November 2018 at the age of only 16, he made his professional debut in a 4-2 loss to Sint-Truiden in a Belgian First Division A. He consequently became the seventh youngest professional debutant at 16 years, 5 months and 26 days. Doku continued to impress at Anderlecht and on 1 December 2019 scored his debut professional goal in a league match against KV Oostende. He played a total of 34 matched and scored 5 goals for the Belgian club.

Rennes: 2020-2023

The Belgian youngster signed for French club Rennes on October 2020 at the age of 18 years for a record fee of 26 million Euros to become the most expensive signing in history of the club. It took Doku a few months to settle in the Ligue 1 but began to show significant improvement in December when he contributed two assists. On 20 March 2021, he scored his debut goal for Rennes against Metz.

During the 2021-22 season he suffered a series of injuries and only played in 14 matches making just 4 starts. Jeremy started the 2022-23 season playing mainly as a substitute but became a regular starter in the final part of the season. He played a full match on 12 February 2023, a 3-1 loss to Toulouse for the first time since 9 May 2021. Doku scored his first goals for Rennes at home turf, a brace in a 3-0 home win against Reims on 15 April 2023. He ended the season with six goals in Ligue 1 and played a key role as the Roazhon Park based club finished fourth in the League.

Doku’s last match for Rennes was on 20 August 2023, a 1-1 draw against RC Lens. He made a total of 75 appearances and scored 10 goals for the French side.

Manchester City: 2023-present

On 24 August 2023, Doku signed a five-year deal with the English Premier League champions. He debuted for the English giants in a 5-1 Premier League home win against Fulham. Jeremy scored his debut goal for Manchester City in a 3-1 victory over West Ham United on 16 September. His first EUFA Champions League goal came in a group stage 3-1 win against German Side RB Leipzig.

Doku was named man of the match of the first time in the EPL following his exceptional display in a 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on 22 October 2023.

He made history on 4 November 2023 when he scored the opening goal and provided four assists in a 6-1 crash over AFC Bournemouth. This made him the youngest player (21 years and 161 days) in the EPL history to provide four assists and be directly involved in five goals in a single match. He as well became a joint Premier League record holder for most assists.

Doku was part of the Manchester City team that won the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup held in Saudi Arabia in December 2023.

Jeremy made 42 appearances in his debut season with Manchester City. He played a critical role in the club winning the EPL title for the fourth time running. The Citizens were runners-up in the FA Cup after loosing 2-1 to Manchester United in the finals on 25 May 2024.

Jeremy Doku International Career

The talented winger represented Belgium at various youth levels including the 2018 UEFA European U17 Championship and the 2019 UEFA European U17 Championship.

Doku made his senior national team debut in the UEFA Nations League on 5 September 2020 against Denmark. He scored his first senior goal three days later in a 5-1 victory over Iceland. He was also part of the squad that represented Belgium in the UEFA Euro 2020 held in June 2021. In November 2022 he was called up to the Belgium squad that completed in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He has as well played an important part in Belgium securing qualification for the Euro 2024.
